Series: The Chosen Coven Book 1
She’s stalked, hunted, and a villainous vampire desires her blood.
Most of the books on witches I read have some things in common. It’s either the witch wants to place a curse, sacrifice or kill people and use their parts for soup. But this is a different witch that is bent on doing quite the opposite for the love of humanity and to save her friends and family.
Mercy is a traumatized teenager (who wouldn’t be if your mother tries to kill you), that just found out that she’s a witch from the chosen covens created by a powerful Angel in her past life. This makes her one of the most powerful witches to walk the earth. She has the ability to control all the five elements (Very formidable, don’t you think?) But she has to go through a witch awakening that will bind her powers to her and to her coven. If she finally awakens, the entire paranormal community will be signalled and then the fight for her life will begin. She’s running out of time.
The Dark Awakening is an amazing book. The characters are well-written, relatable, and each has their own flaws. The story is original and intriguing. I loved how it unfolded as Mercy learnt about her former life and who she was. As it progressed, the author interwoven underlying themes of love, good vs. evil and the strength of true friendship in the narrative. There were so many plot twists in the story, making it unpredictable.
In conclusion, I totally enjoyed this book to the fullest. I love the way Mercy was able to own her powers like a total badass (In a good way) 😊 She is like a Phoenix. She exhibits courage even in the face of uncertainties. The only thing I didn’t like about her was her hasty conclusive decisions which were sometimes irrational. I enjoy books that features strong female characters, and this one did not disappoint. This is a start to a fantastic series. Highly recommended to fans of paranormal and young adult genres with a healthy combination of suspense and intrigue. 🌟🌟🌟🌟
I want to appreciate the author for providing this book to bloggers for free during her recent book blitz. All opinions are totally mine and unbiased.
